Recycle with Impress: we’ll help you give your aligners a second life

21 June · 1 minute

At Impress, the leading chain in invisible orthodontics, in addition to aligning your smile, we have also set out to take care of the environment. The conservation of our planet is a challenge that concerns us all and so we’re committed to recycling our aligners. In this article we’ll tell you more about our recycling initiative and how you, with a simple gesture, can also help us preserve the planet.

What does it mean that aligners are recyclable?

The aligners that our patients use during treatment are made from 100% recyclable plastic. But wait! Just because the material they are made of is recyclable doesn't mean that they should be put in a standard recycling bin. We shouldn’t forget that aligners are "medical material" and, therefore, the way to dispose of them is not the same as with other products made of plastic.

In that case… how can I recycle my aligners?

In Impress' clinics you can find containers used to collect old aligners to be sent off for recycling, so you can dispose of your dental aligners responsibly. They can also be sent by mail to Impress, at calle Botànica 176-178, 08908, l'Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona). Thanks to this action, a large amount of plastic will be recycled every year.

And, what is done with the aligners that are recycled?

All the aligners that are collected in our own clinics will have different uses. They’ll be used as:

  • Fuel or means of generating energy: Once the aligners are incinerated, the resulting energy can be used to generate heat or electricity.
  • Material for other industries: Recycled plastic is common in other industries, such as the automotive sector. For example, it’s used in bumpers, soundproofing plates, interior door panels, floors and trunks.
  • Soil treatment: For the benefit of agriculture and green development, recycled aligners can be used to create fertilizers or soil conditioners.

Want to join this initiative?

Now you know how you can give your aligners a second life, but remember: you should not throw away your aligners until you have completely finished the treatment. In addition, once the treatment is finished, Impress recommends recycling all the aligners except the last one, since it could be necessary in the future if your doctor says so.

And, if you are thinking of straightening your smile and you have not yet started your treatment, what are you waiting for? Put yourself in the hands of Impress, the leading chain in invisible orthodontics. We have a great medical team and the latest technology in the sector so that each treatment is 100% personalised. In addition, as we have previously mentioned, all our aligners are recyclable, so now you don’t have an excuse not to start your orthodontic treatment!
