When our patient care team calls, you will be asked:

- To bring one form of identification with you.
You can ask any questions during this call – and don’t worry, if you miss it, the patient care team will try to contact you again. We like to ensure you have all the information you need ahead of time.
Dental care assessments and treatment plans
On the day of your visit, you might be nervous, but don’t worry! One of our patient care representatives will welcome you to the clinic. They’ll ask you for your ID and invite you to fill in the health questionnaire and consent forms. Once you've completed them, they will take you to a treatment assessment room for part one of your free orthodontic assessment - the 3d scan.

What is the 3d dental scan for?
The 3d scan uses advanced technology to get a precise measurement of your mouth and teeth. It captures a diagram that helps decide the level of treatment and aligners needed. It might feel strange, but the results of seeing a 3d model of your teeth appear on the screen is very cool!
What happens during the 3D dental Scan?
- We'll ask you to insert a mouth stretcher, so the dental technician can move around your mouth with ease and populate the diagram.
- The 3d dental scanner is shaped like a wand. The dental technician inserts it into your mouth to capture the details of every tooth!
- It’s completely painless and takes around 10 minutes. After that, you’ll be asked to take a seat in the waiting room before heading for the 360° facial scan, also known as a panoramic x-ray.
In the second stage, the dentist will ask to remove earrings and any metal piercings located in your face or ears. We'll ask you to stand and ask you to rest your head on the head support while you bite a probe and glasses to protect your eyes during the scan.
With your head positioned in a head guard, the dentist will allow the 3d scanner to take a 360° impression of your mouth. The scan creates a detailed file of your dental impressions; the basis for your medical expert to suggest the best course of action.
What is a dental x-ray used for?
A dental x-ray is an important tool for accurate diagnosis and appropriate dental treatment. It is used to obtain detailed images of the teeth, bones and surrounding tissues, allowing dentists to detect problems that are not visible to the naked eye. Your dentist can use it for:
- Diagnosing hidden cavities between teeth or under fillings
- Evaluating the condition of tooth roots and jawbone
- Detecting infections, cysts or tumors in the mouth
- Planning orthodontic treatments, implants or tooth extractions
- Monitoring dental development in children and adolescents

Meeting your orthodontic expert
You will spend some time talking to our lead medical expert after all the scans are complete. They will explain what they can see from the scans and the proposed course of treatment. You can expect them to cover topics including:
- What you want to fix.
- Any pre-treatment intervention needed to accommodate your aligners such as IPR.
- The projected length of your treatment, and the timeline to achieving the smile you desire.

What's great about orthodontic consultations at Impress is the dentist walks you through the personalised approach to tackle your unique dental requirements. This is all thanks to the 3d scan allowing a view of your teeth from root to tip; ensuring every issue beyond the surface level is fixed.
Many patients say that the personalisation throughout their treatment with Impress is one of their favourite parts of our service. The orthodontist will always take the time to ask you what you want to achieve and listen to what you consider the most important aspects of your orthodontic transformation.
We have three core aligner treatment plans and additional tracks for specific cases that involve greater complexity. With this tiered approach to orthodontic treatment, we can find the right level of intervention needed to achieve complete dental transformation for every patient. If you’re happy with the plan of action, you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your payment options and timeline on the same day!
