What is an overbite?

Overbite is one of the most common deviations in adults. This occurs when the upper jaw is positioned further forward than the lower jaw. It causes your teeth and molars not to align properly. The deviation not only has an aesthetic effect, but it can also lead to complaints. It is important to know that this can be corrected discreetly; Impress's clear aligners are unobtrusive and relatively comfortable.

CORRECT YOUR BITE

What does an overbite look like?

There is a spectrum of ways overbites can present themselves, from mild to severe. You can find out more about the type of overbite you might have below and the medical classifications.

Does an overbite get worse with age?

If a child continues to suck their finger or use a dummy after the age of three when their permanent teeth are forming, they can develop an overbite due to the pressure caused when sucking, which leads to the teeth emerging at the wrong angles. Overbites can also result in functional and speech impediments as you grow, as well as causing physical problems. Aesthetic appearance may become distorted, and you might experience jaw pain, aches in the face and bruxism. With a frontal overbite, the effects are most noticeable because the mouth doesn't close completely. This causes frequent mouth breathing and a dry mouth. The consequences can include permanent throat irritation and tooth decay.
