During your pregnancy, the hormone relaxin increases in your body. This causes your ligaments and joints, including those that support your teeth, to soften. It can increase the risk of your teeth shifting, increase your teeth's mobility and worsen pre-existing conditions.

It's pretty common for teeth to shift within weeks of having a tooth extraction. It's your body's natural response to try to fill the gap left by an extraction. This can result in the teeth near tipping, moving or twisting and opposing teeth actually growing larger than normal to fill the gap.

It's important to seek medical advice if your teeth are moving or shifting, as it can often be a symptom of periodontal disease or gingival inflammation. Teeth can shift, which leads to bacterial accumulation and tenderness when brushing and flossing, which can cause bleeding gums. Bruxism results in intense and constant pressure from grinding, which can weaken periodontal ligaments that hold teeth in the right place. An unresolved case of teeth grinding or clenching can lead to your teeth loosening and wear down the enamel, too.

Aging and reduced jawbone density, pregnancy, orthodontic relapse and teeth gaps can all be the source of teeth moving in adults.
